Nana and Papa donated the Heitman Family "Courting" buggy now on display at the Douglas County Historical Society's new Edwin L Wiegand Ranching & Agricultural Heritage Exhibit.
Circa 1875, the buggy was Louis and Anna Heitman's. Louis migrated from Germany in 1872 at the age of 13. He settled in the Valley with brothers Peter and Henry and sister Minnie Heitman Springmeyer. He married Anna Anderson and they had 7 children: Fred (Lena Myers); Bertha (Lawrence Jacobsen); Lena (John Christensen); Louisa (Pete Nelson); Katherine (Chris Neddenriep); Ellen (Herb Dressler); and Otto (Dorothy Neddenriep).
The museum is raising funds for the exhibit to include a horse to lead the buggy.
